In the 8 months since I’ve started bullet journalling (or well, my strange sort-of bullet journal, mainly hand-drawn planner hybrid!), I’ve developed a set of absolute favorite tools for my planner that stay in my pencil case and travel everywhere with me, alongside my Leuchtturm 1917 journal.
Here are my everyday carry items in order of most important/used.
Pilot Juice Up 03 (black) This is my everyday writing pen. It’s relatively smooth on most papers (not all, but enough), with a super fine nearly needlepoint tip that I love. I also love the design and font on the barrell – so much classier and minimalist than my former everyday pen, the Uniball Signo.
Uniball Signo 0.28 (grey) It took me ages to find a cool grey pen. Most of the ones I found (Pilot FriXion and Pilot Juice) were too warm and I like a less taupey grey color. I use this for accents that I want to fade into the background, like timestamps or personal/on-going/not-pressing to-do list items.
Pilot Juice Up 04 (gold) I use this pen to cross items off my to-do list. It’s shiny and just like all the Juice Up pens, has such a sharp look to it.
Pilot AirBlanc Mechanical Pencil (0.3 mm lead, white barrell) I love this slim, teeny little mechanical pencil. It’s lightweight, looks like a pen, and comes in super thin lead.
Sakura Arch Foam Eraser (black) I wish this gave off a little lest dust but it does the trick, feels smooth and soft on the paper, and matches the gold-and-black aesthetic of my bullet journal and other items in my everyday carry.
Muji Acrylic Ruler Having a clear ruler is invaluable when I’m doing my planner! And I use it at work for various things too.
Uniball Signo Broad (white) I probably don’t need this in my everyday carry but every so often it comes in handy. With the exception of the far superior (but not portable!) Uni-Posca paint markers, this is an excellent opaque white gel pen.
Zebra Mildliner (grey) I rarely use this as I find the ink color quite dark but it’s handy to have around in case of highlighting needs. I’ve used it so much both pen and highlighter side are a little worse for wear.
Pilot Fineliner I found this in my office and turns out it’s actually a pretty excellent bold-line pen. I’m usually more than a bit of a snob with my pens (eek…can you tell!? I just love super fine Japanese pens!) but I love this one for bold headers!
Pilot Juice Up 04 (white) Since taking this photo I’ve actually taken this out of my everyday carry. It only shows up on some black backgrounds (black paper works great, black washes of ink not so much) so it just isn’t worth carrying around. But it’s a lovely and beautiful looking pen.
Here’s an image of how each of these items look written down. Here I’m using a Soumkine Ebony A5 Dotted Journal which no longer seems to be available (darn!).
Hope you enjoyed my everyday carry!
